The Look

Strephon kissed me in the spring,
Robin in the fall,
But Colin only looked at me
And never kissed at all.

Strephon’s kiss was lost in jest,
Robin’s lost in play,
But the kiss in Colin’s eyes
Haunts me night and day.

-- Sara Teasdale

Kisses can be easily come across but the power of eyes is so much more passionate. I think that is the message of the poem. The poem proves that the eyes are indeed a window to somebody’s soul. In the poem, one can say how powerful the eyes can be. Eyes can be deceiving and it can also give us truthfulness. It is of no question why it is considered as a human’s window of soul. The e yes are the only bod y part that can show emotions. When somebody is sad, one can look into the eyes of that sad person and without even asking that person you will know that he is sad. The eyes can also be very deceiving. You may think that the person true to you because of his looks but regrets will just come ahead, too late for you to realize that you have just been deceived. In the poem the woman was seemed to be much awed to the look that Colin had given her. Colin’s look lasted in her mind longer than the kisses that Stephron a and Robin gave to her. Kisses are truly a passionate way of expressing love but looks is a lot more passionate because it gives woman the affirmation that they a re respected .
Looks can also be different in different persons point of view. One may see a different view from what one sees. But looks do not gie it’s value in that way. It existed so that we can communicate and understand each other in a much better way.
