The following entry is a speech that I made for our public speaking class. I was made to deliver a speech wherein I am a candidate of the Student Council’s chairperson. This is my speech.
Speaker:
Professional Education Division Chairperson, Dr. Josefina C. Carvajal, our principal, Prof. Purita T. Baltazae, faculty and to my fellow students, a pleasnt afternoon.
“ The very essence of leadership is to have a vision.” Politicians live by these words. And that could probably be the reason why our country becomes a “ Land of Promise” during campaigns and election periods. I call it a “Land of Promise” because politicians are undoubtedly intelligent and persuasive that they are able to deceive millions of hopeful souls to believe in their promises. How may of them promised a better education for our youth? How many of them have courageously said that “ I will be your defender”? How many of these people have captured our senses by promising us towards a better country? Almost all of them, almost all politicians. They may have the intellect to make visions but they don’t know how to put those visions into work. Anne LaSalle, I think have forgotten to attach the word reality in her quote. It could have been better if she said it this way, “The very essence of true leadership is to have a vision ad have that vision in reality”. If only these were the words that politicians in our country has lived for, then our country will not be “ A land of Promise” but instead “A Promise Land”. A land that ever y Filipino wished to be a part of.
Now, before you is a someone who wants to change in her own little way the definition from every UPian mind about our school as a “School of Promise”. I firmly go to the belief that this school becomes a “ School of Promise” w he n times like this come. I am not afraid to say that the welfare of this school has touched my heart so deeply. Now, as I stand here along with the promise to serve every citizen of this school is a hand and a heart ad a dedication to give you what you moist deserve of in your coming here to learn. I am prepared to carry the responsibility no matter how heavy it might be, if you will let me to. This school will not be a “ School of Broken Promises”, but a school run by a good leadership and a glorious discipline. I am aware of the challenges leadership might give me and I am more willing to accept it. I will be strong and remain truthful to my words but never will I become a rude leader to you. I will open my heart to become a kind person b ut to be weak will never be its ending. I will be proud but not arrogant, be thoughtful but not timid. As ironic as it is but being a leader will never be as easy as you might be thinking of. In this coming election, I humbly ask for your support in helping me fulfil the betterment of the school. Do vote wisely because your vote determines the fate and the future of the school. Vote straight! Vote w wisely! Vote ACTS! Your welfare, our commitment
